Having being born in Rajasthan and having a maternal family still living there, it really instils the culture of what it is being a Rajasthani. The feeling of being a royal. Everything, starting from their clothing to their food shouts out royalty in all it form and glory.

I was probably 2 or 3 when I first came across this delicious food product called dal baati. Just a simple combination of spiced 5 pulses preparation with a baked dough ball, it hits all the right chords. It is a time taking process but boy it's all worth it. The intricate flavours of the dal and the simple taste of the ghee dipped baati is a match made in heaven.

It was usually prepared during festivals or special occasions but I usually got it whenever I asked for it. I especially loved it when it was prepared by my grandmother because no one can make it better than grandmothers right? I called her up during the lockdown and decided to cook alongwith her. In the process, two things happened, one- I got to learn her traditional version of dal baati and two- it got her to smile so big that I could do this over a hundred times just to see her smile that big.

It is important to take care of our elders during these tough time. It doesn't have to be personal visits or multiple phone calls a day but just check up on them once in a while. Trust me, it'll make their day so much better and believe it or not, it will make you happy too. Open your heart and spread love and you will get multifolds of that love from the world. Let's make the world a happy and peaceful place to live in.
